Volume as a measurement

Volume is the three-dimensional counterpart to area. While area is a measure of how much space an object occupies in two-dimensional space, volume is this same measure in three-dimensional space. There are many commonly used units of volume. The unit of volume used is largely dependent on the size of the object being measured. For instance, measuring the volume of a single drop of water in liters would give us a value of approximately 0.00005 liters, whereas measuring it in milliliters would give us a value of 0.05 milliliters. The definitions of these units of volume can also differ between systems.
